The project

Sheffield University Theatre Company's bi-annual 24 Hour Musical raises money for Cavendish Cancer Care, a valuable local charity supporting young people and their families through the challenges of cancer treatment. Involving hundreds of cast, crew, musicians, and production team, it's a complex operation staged in the University's famous Octagon Centre for one night only - with just 24 hours to prepare.

The brief

As production manager for the 24 Hour Musical, my brief was to create - while maintaining secrecy about the actual production from all but a small core crew - a full-scale musical in a large 1230-seater venue. From technical hires to managing teams without revealing the show, the project demanded high level independent team coordination, communication and broad technical knowledge.

The solution

I worked independently in collaboration with the production team for around nine months, through monthly check-ins, detailed briefs for our Heads of Department, and the Octagon technical team. Ahead of the February 2019 event, I sourced & plan everything we would need for the show - and quite a bit that we wouldn't, to throw our participants and audiences off the scent! I also project-managed the online and in-person reveal of the show title, and supported the marketing team to capture entertaining, lively imagery of the show preparations.
